Restoration of Blue Diamond - Caper Cat 18

This blog will track the purchase and restoration of Blue Diamond a very rare Caper Cat 18.
I thought I would start by posting a few photos I took the day I went to inspect her and decide if I would bring her home. All I need to do is work out how to post pictures can this be done inside a blog or do I have to link it to a picture library somewhere else on this site?

I have decided to go with LR Sails up at deception bay they Will be a radial cut main and jib (jibs so big it could be called a genoa foot is over 2 metre long). Great tip on the swage'r stay look real good issue is with bungies and general set up.

You can make your own trap wires no problem and purchase the wire from Muir Marine at Manly, You can grab a Kingchrome swage'r from bunnings cheep and they do a great job.

Hi Dave yes funny you say that I am getting a new set of sail made for her and when getting measured up they both said this would be the perfect platform for a serious kite :-) so watch this space.

Were talking kites this week Glen, I can see one on your boat

Wow, compared to regular capers it just looks like a tiny person! Does it have trapeze lines? If not are you going to add some? That would be awesome!

Just to give some scale to the boat for those that have not seen a Caper Cat 18 the guy in this shot is not me but he is 6' 3" tall.

After some hard negotiation I purchased my caper 18 for $1,500 including a 4 year old Yamaha long shaft outboard and trailer - a lot of boat for the money.

She had never been named so settled of Blue Diamond as they are tough, very rare and when cut and polished look pretty good. Photo below shows Blue diamond on the ramp at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron (RQYS). She has a very powerful rig with over 20 sqm of sail up and she is no slouch!
